JSM Scores Olympic Gold for CHEIL Worldwide

JSM Owner and Composer Joel Simon, working with CHEIL Worldwide and Crossroads UK, led the music production and sound design teams on a mesmerizing :30 promoting the Internet capabilities of the new Samsung Omnia II smart phone. The spot, which features an Olympic motif inspired by next month's Winter Games in Vancouver, displays the deft skill and artistry of JSM's creatives and talent to perfectly synch an original score and sound design to even the trickiest commercial ventures.

Urban Olympic Games stars a hip young city dweller rambling about town, Omnia II in hand, gazing at Olympic Internet coverage. So clear and engaging is the content that his urban environment merges with the onscreen arenas of athletic heroics, transforming an escalator into a steep ski slope, a commuter train into a bobsled track, and a building lobby into an ice rink complete with figure skater. Simon's composition perfectly complements the action with a piano-heavy riff that ticks up and down as the onscreen action lessens or intensifies. The sound design is pitch perfect as well, with rocketing noises accompanying the acceleration of the skis and bobsled down the slope.

"All of us at JSM were both proud and flattered that CHEIL called on us in to play such a key role in a major new Samsung product launch," noted Simon. "This was a very complex underscore and sound design project with a very tight turnaround. We worked intimately with the agency and production team every step of the way to coordinate all the production elements and turn out a beautiful final product."

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
