Girls and Corpses - Need I say more. By ninjacrayon
So I attended my first every Girls and Corpses Event. Being invited by one of my friends, I figured I would check this out. It turns out there were a few surprises I wasn't aware of, and a $5 cover charge to get all I can drink, and watch a few live music performances. Lets get this a move on! Walking up to Meltdown Comics, there was already a good amount of people. Everyone was very social, and snapping pictures. Getting inside they had the Alien Autopsy issue Signing, also a few Adult Film Stars signing their Hustler DVD's. There was also several little things here and there to look at. Though I am not into comics as other may be, this was the longest time I've ever spent in a fun store like that. Moving my way to the back, I caught two really fun bands, and enjoyed a few drinks. Met some people, and was handed a few things we like to call swag. I'd say everyone had a really great time, and this event was a success! I'll leave it at that and just post the pictures now.

There's a new kind of Blog in town. Sixteen X Nine By ninjacrayon
If you love design, and looking at pretty pictures, you'll love this new kind of a blog. A good friend of mine named Jonathan Winbush started up a great reference site purposely for himself, but figured it would be a great way to give back to those who've helped him out over the years. Deciding he wanted to start this blog titled Sixteen X Nine, came to mind because blogs are popular, and he wanted a quick visual Graphic Designers Resource. Jonathan also loves referencing work to build influence from work he's seen, also since he tends to do work at several different computers it got impossible to keep track of all the links, so why not a visual reference. It started by compiling all his links he's come across, and started organizing. Ideally he comes across one or more new artists a day, but also he's got people now submitting their website to him, which he'll post. Throughout his freelancing jobs, other designers who have worked with him have offered a little advice. So rather then a get rich quick plan, he decided to share with everyone all the cool sites which he uses as a source. If you are wondering where the name came from, the answer is right in front of us in a way that it is spelled out. He builds all his Design Boards at 16x9 aspect radio. But that's not all hes got, there's even a few interviews up. Get the story from a few featured artist. They're fun to read, and interesting. So check it out for yourself. Its pretty fun just quickly explore. I'm guilty for checking out all the work. Also submit your own, or ones you love checking out. Bookmark: www.sixteenxnine.net

Software released for attacking Android phones By TechUniverse
Two security experts said on Friday they released a tool for attacking smartphones that use Google Inc's Android operating system to persuade manufacturers to fix a bug that lets hackers read a victim's email and text messages.
"It wasn't difficult to build," said Nicholas Percoco, head of Spider Labs, who along with a colleague, released the tool at the Defcon hacker's conference in Las Vegas on Friday.
Percoco said it took about two weeks to build the malicious software that could allow criminals to steal precious information from Android smartphones.
"There are people who are much more motivated to do these things than we are," he added.
The tool is a so-called root kit that, once installed, allows its developer to gain total control of Android devices, which are being activated by consumers at a rate of about 160,000 units per day, according to Google.

Microsoft shows off new Windows smartphones By TechUniverse
Microsoft Corp showed off prototype phones featuring its new mobile software to Wall Street analysts on Thursday, but is yet to set a date for their rollout beyond availability this holiday shopping season.
The devices aim to claw back market share lost to Apple Inc and Google Inc in the rapidly growing smartphone market, and are a key test for Microsoft's ability to compete in the consumer electronics market.
"It's probably fair to say we've got a lot of work to do," said Chief Executive Steve Ballmer at the company's annual presentation to analysts at its Redmond, Washington headquarters. "It isn't all going to happen overnight."
Microsoft employees showed off the new phones running Windows Phone 7, made by handset makers Samsung Electronics Co and LG Corp, but did not allow photographs of the devices, which are still at the prototype stage.
No handset makers have announced a date for commercial launch. Ballmer said only that they would be coming to market this autumn.
The devices have large touch screens, incorporate a Zune music player, e-mail programs and link up with content from Xbox Live, Facebook, and other networks. Read More

Bitter smartphone war seen pinching vendor margins By TechUniverse
An increasingly heated battle in the global smartphone market is set to weigh on handset vendors' profit margins for the rest of the year, analysts said on Friday.
All top cellphone vendors including Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Research in Motion are rolling out new smartphone models for the holiday sales-fueled fourth quarter.
"The smartphone market is becoming heavily congested as a host of players seek to boost margins. The reality in the second half is set to be very different," said analyst Geoff Blaber from British consultancy CCS Insight.
"The market will swell in volume but price erosion will inevitably result in casualties as value is captured by a minority rather than the majority," Blaber said. Read More

James Bond producers worried by indefinite delay By TechUniverse
The "James Bond 007: Blood Stone" video game event in London this month had all the class and splash one would expect from the world's most elegant spy.
Guests sipped Champagne in the historic former church venue One Marylebone and inspected pieces of Bond memorabilia including Oddjob's hat from "Goldfinger" and Jaws' famous teeth. The event even featured a video game Bond girl in a stunning black evening dress, the Brit songstress Joss Stone who belts out the game's theme song.
However impressive the Activision launch, big questions about the historic franchise loomed. Longtime Bond producer Michael G. Wilson touched on these unspoken questions from the podium. "I wish we were launching a movie," he quipped, bringing laughter from the audience.
It was a rare public comment and an even rarer moment of mirth in the drawn-out James Bond-MGM saga, which has left the faithful feeling shaken. In April, Wilson and his half sister and fellow Bond producer, Barbara Broccoli, announced that development of the next 007 feature, known as "Bond 23," was suspended "indefinitely." Read More

The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers."
